| Lyme Regis Facts and Figures |
- Lyme Regis has a town population of around 4,500 and in the
13th century it developed into one of the major British ports
- It was once home to Sir George Somers, the founder of the Somers
Isles or now known as Bermuda
- One of its most famous habitants was Mary Anning, a world famous
palentologist and fossil collector
- The Town Mill dates back to 1340, and The Domesday Book records
the existence of a mill in 1086, so the site could be almost 1000
years old!
- In 1839 eight million tonnes of rock fell into the sea in a
major landslide. Even today Lyme Regis is the worst place for
land slips in England.
